This is Nikki- She is so sweet- she was very afraid, just got to the spca the day before- can you imagine how scary it would be to be dropped off like that- just poof! your family is gone and you are surrounded by strangers, no idea what will happen to you. It breaks my heart everytime I think of it. Nikki's story is just like so many- her "family" had to "move" so all of a sudden they can't take her with them. We see SO much of this- why would you move and leave behind the one who counts on you for everything? Sad and as pitiful as it is, It happens every day, all day long....
Apollo and two of his sisters. They love to snuggle- their time at the shelter has been remarkably therapuetic for them- every day they get better and better- just a little love and attention goes a long way!
Apollo is a "mistake". He and his 7 siblings came to the SPCA from a breeder. This litter was an "accident" according to the breeder, so could not be sold as pure bred. They spent their first year and a half in small quarters, with little or no love or attention. They had never even been named, Apollo is actually "puppy #6" . They never walked on a leash or had any of their basic social needs met. Several of the animals had to be euthanized due to their unfortunate conditions. This is a glaring example of the issues that are rampant with "puppy mills" and breeders. Please adopt from a sheter- don't buy from a breeder or pet store! They say mixed breeds make better pets- a generalization I'm sure, but worth considering. Apollo and his surviving sisters are the sweetest, most docile creatures I've met- he and his sisters are pictured above with one of the volunteers.
I don't know this dogs name. He is just one of many beautiful animals that wait for loving homes at the SPCA.
Lana.
Lana broke my heart- I wanted to bring her home so badly, but can't just yet. So I look forward to going back to see her and the many others that wait for some love.
Deuce.
I think this portrait says it all. Deuce and all the rest of his pals at the SPCA just want to be free of cages, want to play and want to go home.
Jackson spotted something. I like how he blends in with the wall mural. Isn't he beautiful?
Jackson holding on tight.
The animals do get out to play, but sadly not often enough. The SPCA is always in need of volunteers to come and share some love with the homeless and abused animals they take in.
Lucy.
Lucy is a sweetheart! She wanted lots and lots of love, and had even more to give.
